Ice Cream Social
All are invited to the West Chicago Historical Society’s Ice Cream Social on Saturday, September 7th from noon-3:00p.m. at the Kruse House Museum!
A slice of homemade cake or pie and ice cream with a refreshing drink are waiting for you during this fundraiser to support the Kruse House Museum!
Spend the afternoon with us, meeting with friends, sitting on the lawn and viewing the Kruse House Gardens. The West Chicago Garden Club continues to do a wonderful job maintaining the fabulous surroundings of the Kruse House-be sure to tour them while you are here!
At the Ice Cream Social there will also be a door prize and tickets for purchase for a chance to win other prizes, including pies and other desserts!
Tickets are $5.00 each and can be purchased in advanced from a Historical Society Board Member, at the Kruse House Museum, the West Chicago City Museum or at the entrance of the Kruse House on the day of the event. ***Parking will be permitted at the City Hall parking lot, 475 Main Street. No parking is permitted in the grocery store lot across the street.
We Go History: Tasting the 1930s
Join the Friends of the West Chicago City Museum & the West Chicago Historical Society for an entertaining Tasting Party with history presenter Ellie Carlson.
Learn all about the history of cooking during the 1930s and enjoy the full tasting menu prepared as it would have been during the time! Tickets are $20 for We Go History Members and $22 for non-members. You can reserve your spot by emailing us at wegohistory@gmail.com or stopping into the City Museum at 132 Main Street during our open hours Thursdays & Fridays 9:30am-2:30pm and Saturdays 9:30am-3:30pm.
Details about the program: It is the Depression in America. The stock market has crashed, Roosevelt is trying to repair the country and thousands of Americans are changing the way they eat. Slide9Many rural folk are leaving for the cities and learning to cook on hotplates in rented rooms. A meal in a diner might have only cost a few cents but many didn’t have that so they made do with what they could cook themselves.
Still and all, many people who lived through that time have fond memories of the tastes and smells of that era.
German Christmas Tree Trimming Fundraiser
Have you ever wanted to party in the Kruse House Museum? Well now is your chance! Join us for our first ever German Christmas Tree Trimming Fundraiser on Wednesday, December 6th at 6:00pm and 7:30pm. The one hour time slots will offer tickets to the public for $25 a person to join the Kruse House Museum board in decorating our Kruse House Tree, trying their hand at German paper holiday crafts and creating historic Christmas decorations. Appetizers and holiday spirits will be served.
Germans in West Chicago
Join the West Chicago Historical Society for our Annual Meeting on Tuesday, November 14th at 7pm at the Fox Community Center. After a short business meeting, the City Museum will present "Germans in West Chicago," telling the story of the large German immigrant population that helped shape West Chicago, including the Kruse family, whose house we now interpret as the Kruse House Museum.
This is event is free and open to all. Light refreshments will be served.

Annual Meeting
Join us for our Annual Members Meeting Tuesday, November 15, 2022, at 7:00 p.m. at the Fox Community Center. We will have a brief, but important, business meeting at which members will be asked to approve some long-needed changes to the Society’s Constitution and By-laws. The business meeting will be followed by an informative and entertaining presentation on the history of Coca-Cola.
